Mineral vs Synthetic Engine Oil: A Comparison
15 February 2026 MSCV Editorial
Choosing between mineral, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic oil depends on engine, budget and riding style.
Mineral oil: economical, good for older engines and short trips.
Semi-synthetic: a blend offering better protection than mineral at a moderate price — a popular all-rounder.
Fully synthetic: superior high-temperature protection and stability, ideal for high-performance or hard-working engines, at a higher cost.
Always follow the manufacturer's viscosity and specification (e.g. JASO MA2 for wet-clutch motorcycles).
Safety Notes
Never mix incompatible oil specifications. When switching types, a flush may be recommended — consult a technician.
